And - you guessed it - todays Book Fashion Friday is a prom dress. It's also inspired by Delirium by Lauren Oliver.

30 Days of Books - Day 3

Your favorite series

The Infernal Devices | Cassandra Clare

Ah this was a tough one, but taking the whole series into consideration it has to be The Infernal Devices. It's thrilling, full of mystery and twists and turns, but has an awful lot of heart and beautiful relationships to balance everything perfectly. Equal parts excitement and heartbreak, but ultimately an epic story of love and strength in the face of danger.

Most Anticipated of 2013 (#4)

Control: Control | Lydia Kang
December 26th 2013
Dial Books

An un-putdownable thriller for fans of Uglies

When a crash kills their father and leaves them orphaned, Zel knows she needs to protect her sister, Dyl. But before Zel has a plan, Dyl is taken by strangers using bizarre sensory weapons, and Zel finds herself in a safe house for teens who aren’t like any she’s ever seen before—teens who shouldn't even exist. Using broken-down technology, her new friends’ peculiar gifts, and her own grit, Zel must find a way to get her sister back from the kidnappers who think a powerful secret is encoded in Dyl’s DNA.

A spiraling, intense, romantic story set in 2150—in a world of automatic cars, nightclubs with auditory ecstasy drugs, and guys with four arms—this is about the human genetic “mistakes” that society wants to forget, and the way that outcasts can turn out to be heroes.

“Control blew me away.”—James Dashner, New York Times bestselling author of The Maze Runner trilogy

I'm really really excited for this one. It's too far away though!!

Gameboard of The Gods (Review)

Age of X: Gameboard of The Gods | Richelle Mead
Dystopia, Paranormal

June 4th 2013, Dutton Adult

Characters ★★★★★
Setting
★★★★★
Writing Style ★★★★★

Review:

This is an exhilarating, gripping read.

The world building is so extensive and detailed that I can see it vividly in my mind and I feel like I know everything about the RUNA and the provinces. I can't wait for the second book so I can (hopefully?) learn about the EA.

The plot is full of action and excitement, with everything from ritualistic murders to talking ravens. The Gods and religions of Gameboard of The Gods are fascinating without being outlandish. The reasons for The Decline of the world are feasible enough that it reads as a real frightening possibility. Not to mention that I am sure that somewhere today there exists Praetorians! Don't try to convince me that there isn't a geneticist engineering super soldiers, because I'm certain there is.

The characters, Mae and Justin, were strong and unlike any characters I've read before. I'd go so far to say that I love Justin and Mae as much as Mead's other main characters, which is something I didn't expect. Justin was hilarious in parts and heart-breaking in others. Mae was vulnerable, brave, and badass. Tessa was an absolute sweetheart. And Magnus and Horatio are the best characters to ever have been written. I want my own ravens.

I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but I never thought I would love it as much as I did. Richelle's writing is brilliant, with intricate descriptions and emotive dialogue. I fell in love with Gameboard of The Gods within ten percent of reading it, and it is now my favourite Richelle Mead novel - even over the brilliant Bloodlines and Vampire Academy.

I impatiently await the sequel, and recommend that everyone buy this book as soon as possible!

30 Days of Books - Day 2

A book that you’ve read more than 3 times

The Scorpio Races | Maggie Stiefvater

Confession: I don't even know how many times I have read this book.

It is, and will always be, my favourite standalone novel and nothing in the world can change that. The real setting of the island, the emotional, raw relationship between Puck and Sean, the moving bond of Sean and Corr, the terrifying reality of the races - everything about this book will stay with me forever. Maggie Stiefvater is a goddess of storytelling, and those who say different must be incapable of seeing true beauty. The Scorpio Races is a stunning and mesmerising tale of bravery, love, and loyalty, and nothing I say will ever come close to the epicness of what it truly is.

And one day I will type Scorpio the first time, and not Scoprio. Today is not that day

303 tbr!

303 people want to read The Forgotten on Goodreads.

This calls for a celebratory 3OH!3 song

I'm actually more hyped about 303 to-reads than I was at 300. That's music for you - makes everything backward. I love 3OH!3

Punk & Poetry

I'm breaking the general theme of this blog because I want to talk about music, in particular The King Blues and Itch. It will eventually come back around to my book(s) if you stick to the end of the post.

I'm half dazed and just back from Slam Dunk North so if none of this makes sense, it's 'cause I'm only half awake.

20 May 2013

July releases.

Out of curiosity I was looking at YA books that shared The Forgotten's release date, and I realised that some amazing novels from my to-read list come out on the same day. So I thought I'd compile them here in case anyone is looking for July releases.

July 30th (TF's paperback release date)

The Twixt: Indelible | Dawn Metcalf
from Harlequin Teen

Some things are permanent.

Indelible.

And they cannot be changed back.

Joy Malone learns this the night she sees a stranger with all-black eyes across a crowded room—right before the mystery boy tries to cut out her eye. Instead, the wound accidentally marks her as property of Indelible Ink, and this dangerous mistake thrusts Joy into an incomprehensible world—a world of monsters at the window, glowing girls on the doorstep, and a life that will never be the same.

Now, Joy must pretend to be Ink’s chosen one—his helper, his love, his something for the foreseeable future...and failure to be convincing means a painful death for them both. Swept into a world of monsters, illusion, immortal honor and revenge, Joy discovers that sometimes, there are no mistakes.

Somewhere between reality and myth lies…

THE TWIXT

Mythos Academy: Midnight Frost | Jennifer Estep
from K-Teen

Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there …

Earth Bound | Aprilynne Pike
from Razorbill

Love, fate, and power collide in this new series by #1 New York Timesbestselling author Aprilynne Pike!

Tavia Michaels is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed her parents. When she starts to see strange visions of a boy she’s never spoken with in real life, she begins to suspect that there’s much about her past that she isn’t being told. Tavia will soon discover that she’s an Earthbound—someone with the ability to create matter out of nothing—and that she alone holds the key to stopping the Reduciata, an evil society that manipulates global events for its own shadowy purposes. Tavia will ultimately have to make a choice: to come into her powers and save the world from the evil Reduciata or to choose free will and a love of her own.

The Lux Guardians: The Forgotten | Saruuh Kelsey

Good and goodness will prevail.

Honour and Horatia Frie are twins living in a world of wreck and ruin.

Branwell and Bennet Ravel are twins living in a world of danger and secrecy.

Each tasked with an impossible quest, and faced with unimaginable struggles, they must work together to halt the utter devastation intended for both of their worlds

The Forgotten, book one in The Lux Guardians series, is a Young Adult Dystopian novel set both in a future wreck of London and London in the Victorian era.

Looking forward to all three of these, and my own book obviously! July is looking to be a good month.

Bought:

Numbers: Numbers | Rachel Ward
Blue Bloods: Keys To The Repository | Melissa De La Cruz

So I bought these two today from the pound shop, and they were 50p each. Which is crazy. Numbers is on my GR to-read list, and I've been meaning to read Blue Bloods for a while. Even if I don't like the Blue Bloods series, it was only 50p so no great loss if I hate it.

You should see the inside pages of Numbers, though. There are literally numbers everywhere. It's a beautiful book! I'm so happy I bought it.

Review:

Ouch, that hurt.

Through The Ever Night was as magical and thrilling as the first book, though infinitely more heart-breaking and horrible. I can't write a full review of this since I have no idea where to begin with my emotions, but I will review in the form of a few gifs.

Perry being amazing as Blood Lord

The Tides' reaction to Aria, and her poisoning

The horrible separation and Perry thinking Aria had left him for good

Roar and Liv finally being together

Sable. Ugh.

Roar my darling not speaking

Aria and Perry reunion

Badass rescue effort

Cinder being gone

Oh my darling Cinder. I'm coming to rescue you. And I'm armed ... with a fireplace poker. I will save you.

I need book three now.
