30 Days of Books - Day 12

A book you used to love but don’t anymore

Matched series | Ally Condie

I loved Matched when I first read it. Ky and Cassia's romance just hooked me in and it was beautiful and honest. But then Crossed happened, and I was unsure about where the plot was going. It dragged on and on and got boring but I stuck with it. Reached - ugh. Reached ruined this series for me. It was flat, the resolution was hardly a resolution and the conflict not conflict at all. Ky and Cassia didn't feel very together, and everything just felt weird. It felt wrong and slow and nothing at all. Not how a conclusion to a series should be.

I still love Matched, but Matched alone. Not with the rest of the series.

30 Days of Books - Day 11

A book you hated

Strange Angels | Lili St. Crow

Ugh. I couldn't get into this at first, and then there was a page where the protagonist talked about puking and taking a piss and then going back to the toilet to be sick again. I backed the hell out of there without a second thought.

Not a fan.

30 Days of Books - Day 10

 Favorite classic book

Pride and Prejudice | Jane Austen
Jane Eyre | Charlotte Bronte

You can't make me choose between these two. And this is only if we're not including every Sherlock Holmes ever, because if we were that would win hands down.

Pride and Prejudice was the book that got me into reading, thanks to school making me read it and my Lit teacher being fricking awesome. Jane Eyre I discovered and read without encouragement and - I just. Yeah, I love that book and its characters. Both of these books shaped me as a reader.

P.S. How pretty is that cover of Jane Eyre? I have the physical copy and the whole book design is beautiful. You can see photos of it here.

30 Days of Books - Day 9

A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

Vampire Academy | Richelle Mead

A school - of vampires? Yeah, whatever, this is going to be really bad-wait did you say hot Russian guy? Okay I'll persevere. Hang on, this protagonist has balls and bravery. And there's three types of vampire, one of which guards another kind? Holy shit, this book is good! Minus the bitchy high school drama, the vampires and their society? Freaking awesome.

I devoured VA in two days, and the series only gets better and better with each book.

30 Days of Books - Day 8

Most overrated book

Hush Hush | Becca Fitzpatrick

I know that a lot of people love this book, which makes me think that I'm just missing something. It wasn't for me. The writing, to my taste, was a bit bland, and the protagonist dull and ordinary. It makes me question myself since many books I've enjoyed have had ordinary MC's, City of Bones for example, but there's something about this book I just couldn't get into. Maybe it was creepy, stalker Patch. Who knows, maybe I'll read it in five years time and fall in love with it, but for now? I don't get it.

Tell you one thing, though. The cover is stunning. The feathers being foil and red and? Yes. Very beautiful cover. The font's all a bit Twilight though.

30 Days of Books - Day 7

Most underrated book

Inside Out | Maria. V. Snyder

Keep Your Head Down.
Don't Get Noticed.
Or Else.

I'm Trella. I'm a scrub. A nobody. One of thousands who work the lower levels, keeping Inside clean for the Uppers. I've got one friend, do my job and try to avoid the Pop Cops. So what if I occasionally use the pipes to sneak around the Upper levels? The only neck at risk is my own…until I accidentally start a rebellion and become the go-to girl to lead a revolution...

I loved Inside Out when I first read it, and I couldn't believe more people hadn't read it. It has a unique dystopian setting, a feisty admirable MC, a whole host of interesting supporting characters, hate-able antagonists, and it is packed full of thrilling, heart-pounding action. I recommend this to anyone who likes Legend, Divergent, and The Maze Runner.

30 Days of Books - Day 6

A book that makes you sad

The Evolution of Mara Dyer | Michelle Hodkin

This book is heartbreaking. It genuinely hurt my heart to read it, and strains it now to just think about it. Mara and Noah have the most achingly honest relationship I have ever read about. I just wish things were easier for them, that they could be happy for longer than a day.

30 Days of Books - Day 5

A book that makes you happy

The Indigo Spell | Richelle Mead

Sydrian. I think that's all I need to say. Sydrian makes me inexplicably happy.

30 Days of Books - Day 4

Favorite book of your favorite series

The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Prince | Cassandra Clare

I love every single thing about this book - the development of Tessa's relationships with the boys, Will's curse and Magnus helping him, Charlotte being seriously awesome and Henry being her equal. I love the action, the romance, the heart-ache it gives me, and everything from the exquisite detail of Cassie's writing to the vivid setting it creates. I especially love Yorkshire being a feature of this book, being from Yorkshire as I am. But the thing that makes this book stick with me? Jem. James Carstairs. I fell in love with him in Clockwork Angel, and I loved him irrevocably in this book. My heart has a name and it is James Carstairs.

30 Days of Books - Day 3

Your favorite series

The Infernal Devices | Cassandra Clare

Ah this was a tough one, but taking the whole series into consideration it has to be The Infernal Devices. It's thrilling, full of mystery and twists and turns, but has an awful lot of heart and beautiful relationships to balance everything perfectly. Equal parts excitement and heartbreak, but ultimately an epic story of love and strength in the face of danger.

30 Days of Books - Day 2

A book that you’ve read more than 3 times

The Scorpio Races | Maggie Stiefvater

Confession: I don't even know how many times I have read this book.

It is, and will always be, my favourite standalone novel and nothing in the world can change that. The real setting of the island, the emotional, raw relationship between Puck and Sean, the moving bond of Sean and Corr, the terrifying reality of the races - everything about this book will stay with me forever. Maggie Stiefvater is a goddess of storytelling, and those who say different must be incapable of seeing true beauty. The Scorpio Races is a stunning and mesmerising tale of bravery, love, and loyalty, and nothing I say will ever come close to the epicness of what it truly is.

And one day I will type Scorpio the first time, and not Scoprio. Today is not that day

30 Days of Books - Day 1

Best book you read last year

Shatter Me | Tahereh Mafi

The poetic prose and emotional writing just blew me away. I've never loved the writing of a book more than I do the Shatter Me series. Tahereh Mafi is incredibly talented and I feel very lucky to have been able to read her work.
