Belated Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted at Tynga's Reviews, and  is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

I'm late with STS this week. I've had a LOT of stuff to do with The Forgotten, and haven't had time to read much let alone make blog posts. But I've stolen a bit of time now to make this post. The good news is that TF is in final revisions stage and will be available for reviewers in the next fortnight!

Bought:

Marked | P.C. and Kristin Cast
Vampire Diaries: The Awakening & The Struggle | L. J. Smith

I'm on a vampire kick. This is partly The Vampire Diaries's fault. I tried to resist the show, I really did, but it's just so addictive. So I had to buy the books. And this group on Goodreads (a.k.a. the only group I am a member of because all the others I have joined in the past weren't for me) is having a vampire theme this month and although I'm not taking part because I don't have much reading time this month, I thought I'd still read a few vampire books to ~kind of~ take part.

They're both really pretty in hardcopy and I'm excited to read these! Marked is especially nice because it has pink on the edge of the pages.

Book Fashion Friday: Clockwork Princess

This weeks book fashion is inspired by Clockwork Princess! I took a few liberties, and went with a modern take on the cover.

Inspired by the cover:

dress from asos.co.uk

I can totally see Modern-Day-Tessa wearing this as she walks down Blackfriars Bridge. It's simple and pretty and intricately detailed like the dress on the cover.

Honourable mention:

I can't even explain why I like this dress. It's just so a,dgkf.jhflf. Yes, eloquently put, Saruuh.

Book Fashion Friday(... on a Tuesday): Icons

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, or not following me on Goodreads or Tumblr, you will know that I am currently in love with Icons by the crazy talented Margaret Stohl. And, being my favourite book of the year, I couldn't just let its release date go by without doing something out of the ordinary.

I recently started doing a thing on Fridays where I post fashion inspired by book covers, and I thought I'd do a celebratory Book Fashion Friday ... err, Tuesday, because ICONS IS OUT NOW!! *throws confetti, blows up balloons*

US cover:

And inspired by the cover:

I LOVE this dress. Not only is it flouncy and stormy-blue in colour, but the sparkles looks like a lightning bolt! Could it be any more perfect?

Available here for $156. If only I had the money to buy it *sighs wistfully*

But enough of wistful sighs! Here's the UK cover:

And inspired by the cover:

A high impact dress for a high impact book. It's just such a dramatic dress! I can totally image lightning bolts flashing in the sky behind someone wearing this.

Available here for $338

But while I love the UK-cover-inspired dress, I'm really prefer the US cover itself. DAMN BEING BRITISH. Look how spectacularly pretty the US cover is. I want it. I'm probably going to end up importing it from Barnes and Noble or Amazon US because I want it that much, and I need to possess this book in hardcover. I do like our cover but LOOK AT THE HOLE! And the fancy text. And - gah! I'm in love with the US cover. I will own it if its the last thing I do.

Blurb:

Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol's family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn't know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside -- safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can't avoid.

She's different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador's privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn't a coincidence. It's a conspiracy.

Within the Icon's reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions -- which they've always thought to be their greatest weaknesses -- may actually be their greatest strengths.

Bestselling author Margaret Stohl delivers the first book in a heart-pounding series set in a haunting new world where four teens must piece together the mysteries of their pasts -- in order to save the future.

It's epic and heart-wrenching and it will make you throw your e-reader at the wall and completely forget that you probably shouldn't do that because it's not a paper copy and that was an expensive device. True Story. (Damn you, Stohl!)

Go buy it right now!

The Demon's Lexicon (Review)

The Demon's Lexicon: The Demon's Lexicon | Sarah Rees Brennan
YA, Urban Fantasy

Characters ★★★★★
Setting
★★★★☆
Writing Style ★★★★☆

Review:

"Witty, Dark, and Moving" - Cassandra Clare

The quote on the cover really says it all about this book.

The Demon's Lexicon has the same enthralling, magical quality about it as The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater - one of my all time favourite books. From the first chapter I was drawn into an intriguing world of demons and magicians, where darkness and danger follows the lives of Nick and Alan, two boys who live every day fighting demons and on the run from a magician's threat.

The characters are really what make this book, and I fell head over depressing heels in love with Nick, the aloof threatening boy who feels no fear, pity, or remorse for his actions. I have a fetish for horribly broken boys, but this book went above and beyond. I didn't fall for a broken boy, oh no, I fell for a boy yet to be broken. And the ending of this book makes me want to tear it into tiny little pieces. Damn you Sarah Rees Brennan for dumping that torrent of emotions on me without warning.

I'm finding it hard to describe this book without going into detail about the funny and intelligent characters, the unique urban fantasy setting, the often unnerving events that fill these pages, and the brilliant genius that is Sarah Rees Brennan. This is the first book of hers I've read, not counting TBC #1, but as soon as I have money I'm buying everything else she's written. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. God help me.

Overall: ★★★★☆ (4.5 stars)

P.S. How much nicer is the UK cover? Unlucky US, unlucky.

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted at Tynga's Reviews, and  is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

I went on a bit of an eBook spree this week.

I'm not gonna write out the details for all of these, but I'll link to their Goodreads;
Top: 1 2 3 4
Middle: 1 2 3 4
Bottom: 1 2 3 4

Some of these look really good, some look alright, some I only downloaded because they were free. If you're interested in any of these, they are all currently free in the iBooks store.
